Newsmax Rising Bestsellers – Week of August 14, 2023

[ad_1]

This week’s selections in Newsmax’s Rising Bestsellers can be likened to a combination of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon Rising” and Bob Dylan’s ” A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall.” In one, a conservative media figure predicts that globalization will create dark times ahead, and in another, an author known for his generational theory of American history agrees that we’re headed for turbulent years. There is also the examination of the rise — and current decline — of one of America’s most iconic brands. But fear not. A popular bishop has the game plan for turning things around and reaching our personal potential. Then there is the novel of the week, written by one of America’s favorite storytellers.

Dead Fall: A Thriller,” by Brad Thor (Emily Bestler Books)

This is the 22nd in New York Times bestselling novelist Brad Thor’s popular Scot Harvath series of thrillers. In this latest, Harvath is sent to avenge the brutal murder of American aid workers working in Ukraine, slaughtered by a rogue Russian mercenary unit comprised of inmates selected from Russia’s worst prisons and mental institutions. “This is Brad Thor at his best,” wrote Jeff Clark for GoodReads. “Scot Harvath is dead center in the middle of the Ukraine-Russia war and on a mission to complete or die trying. The pace, the grit, and the action are top notch. Harvath navigates the battlefield like he’s still in his prime, and pulls no punches. As with all of Thor’s novels, 300+ pages fly by in the blink of an eye. And rightly so…it’s on fire!” [Fiction]

Dark Future: Uncovering the Great Reset’s Terrifying Next Phase,” by Glenn Beck (Forefront Books)

President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” slogan sounds awfully benign, and even similar to former President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again.” But it’s not. According to podcaster and media mogul Glenn Beck, the Trump slogan says let’s return America to its former glory; Biden says let’s turn it into something different, allegedly better. Beck associates it with “The Great Reset,” which is the brainchild of German economist Klaus Schwab, who founded the Swiss-based World Economic Forum The Great Reset is nothing but a rebranding of the New World Order, or globalism. Beck made some predictions for America on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” shortly before the cable network discontinued the show. “By 2025, we are going to be at war, we are going to have a new dollar — a currency that is probably coming from the central bank — we’ll have a currency collapse, and we will live in a virtual police state,” he said. “I know that may sound crazy to a lot of people. It’s not far off.” [Nonfiction]

Disruptive Thinking: A Daring Strategy to Change How We Live, Lead, and Love, by T. D. Jakes (FaithWords)

This New York Times bestseller will guide the reader to develop the courage to challenge the status quo by thinking outside the box. The author suggests that by discarding many of the rules we learned from our parents, schools, and society, we can attain the wisdom and practical skills necessary to reach our full potential, “Bishop Jakes leads us into a new way of relating to and transforming the world around us for good,” said James Daniels, reviewing for Amazon. He added that the book “will teach you the mind-set and give the tools you need to create groundbreaking and meaningful change in your life and in the world around you.” [Nonfiction]

Family Reins: The Extraordinary Rise and Epic Fall of an American Dynasty,” by Billy Busch (Blackstone Publishing)

The author, who was groomed as a prince to the King of Beers, was raised in a world of privilege with a personal amusement park and a pet elephant. He describes the steady rise of Anheuser-Busch, identified by one of America’s most iconic advertising symbols — the Clydesdale horse team. “We’re the poster children of the American dream,” writes Busch, “that not-so-outdated belief that hard work, entrepreneurship, grit, and a positive can-do attitude can make anything possible.” “For generations, the Busch family was synonymous with mass-produced beer, courtesy of an empire that began with a St. Louis brewery that churned out a popular lager,” wrote Kirkus Reviews. But in the end, the book demonstrates that “a family that drinks together sinks together.” [Nonfiction]

The Fourth Turning Is Here: What the Seasons of History Tell Us about How and When This Crisis Will End,” by Neil Howe (Simon & Schuster)

Twenty-five years ago, Neil Howe co-wrote the theory that modern history moves in cycles, each one lasting approximately from 80 to 100 years, with each cycle composed of four eras — or “turnings.” He and his fellow co-authors made this discovery by examining world events from the previous 500 years. The author says that our own fourth turning has arrived, as predicted, and he believes the polarization, discord, and threat of global conflict that marks present-day America, will conclude by the early 2030s and will bring either danger or promise. “I love this book,” said “Constitutional Nobody,” reviewing for USSA News. “As a theory of history, I find it much more compelling than the Marxist theory of historical materialism.” [Nonfiction]
