In this one, Jack Ryan, who is now the U.S. president, agrees to help the Panamanian president in his fight against his socialist rival. In the midst of it all, the government in Panama is overthrown in a coup d’état, placing access through the Panama Canal Zone into jeopardy. “Tom Clancy may be gone, but the characters continue on,” wrote Randy G. Mills, reviewing for Amazon. “There have been a few writers continuing the story, and they have all been excellent. The steady rise in U.S. life expectancy has once again started to recover after a sharp pandemic decline, and we’re already seeing the effects. Last year former first lady Roslyn Carter died at 96 and was survived by her 99-year-old husband. Legendary game show host Bob Barker died at 99, as did actress Betty White. On Dec. 7 century-old Pearl Harbor survivors attended ceremonies marking the attack in Hawaii. “Hooked from the start with a lively intro to France’s Jeanne Calment, who lived to 122 and had her own rap album! Everyone recalls the battle of words between Dr. Anthony Fauci and Sen. Rand Paul, also a physician, over COVID’s origins and treatments, along with Fauci’s suspected culpability. Adding fuel to the debate, a recently-released CDC report acknowledges that people who receive certain vaccinations may not do as well as they would like to believe.
