Newsmax Rising Bestsellers – Week of June 19, 2023

[ad_1]

America’s perilous state is a shared concern by many authors’ offerings this week. One author describes the ideals of liberty and freedom that compels people from all over the globe to immigrate here. Another explains how far America has fallen since the beginning of the Obama administration, and a third describes how one can achieve the first step to getting back to where the country needs to be — by winning elections. The fiction selection of the week has every indication of becoming an exciting new series of legal thrillers. And there’s even a “self-help” suggestion.

The Art of Clear Thinking: A Stealth Fighter Pilot’s Timeless Rules for Making Tough Decisions,” by Hasard Lee (St. Martin’s Press)

A trait of all successful pilots of advanced, high speed military fighter jets is the ability to make high-stakes, split-second decisions. But this isn’t an innate skill — it’s acquired, and U.S. Air Force fighter pilot Hasard Lee explains how we can develop that skill in “The Art of Clear Thinking.” The lessons that we can all use in business and in life, include:

  • How to learn better and faster

  • Cultivating mental toughness
  • Developing the skills to quickly assess, choose, and execute

Said Scott Ward, reviewing for GoodReads, “I would use Lee’s book as the foundation to teaching good decision-making to my ‘apprentices.’ It is a worthwhile addition to any leadership library.” (Nonfoction)

Her Deadly Game,” by Robert Dugoni (Thomas & Mercer)

Newsmax’s novel of the week has all the earmarks of becoming a new successful series by New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni. It centers around Keera Duggan, a high-powered, ambitious prosecutor and former chess prodigy, whose career with the DA’s office falls apart after a failed relationship with a senior office colleague. So, she switches teams and starts working for her father’s failing criminal defense practice. Her chance for making a name for herself while giving her father’s firm a needed shot in the arm comes when investment adviser Vince LaRussa retains her to represent him after he’s accused of murdering his wealthy wife. Complicating matters more, her opponent in the upcoming trial is none other than her former lover, who’s loaded for bear to destroy her in court. Kirkus Reviews called it a “Fast-paced legal-intrigue gold that could be improved only by kicking off a new series.” (Fiction)

March to the Majority: The Real Story of the Republican Revolution,”  by Newt Gingrich, with Joe Gaylord (Center Street)

New York Times bestselling author Gingrich is best known for leading the country as House speaker to a Republican renaissance in 1994 and achieving the first GOP majority in 40 years. He did it with his “Contract With America” — promises he made and kept with the American people. In “March to the Majority” he describes how that success can be used as a blueprint to build it again in the upcoming elections. Isabel Stephenson called “March to the Majority” an “excellent read” in her review, adding “This is an amazing book that acts like a road map for conservatives today by drawing upon lessons learned from when Republicans gained the majority in 1994. A must read leading up to 2024!” (Nonfiction)

The Pledge to America: One Man’s Journey from Political Prisoner to U.S. Navy SEAL,” by Drago Dzieran (Liberatio Protocol)

This tells the amazing story of an amazing man, who was raised in poverty and eventually became a political prisoner in Poland, which was then under communist control. When Drago Dzieran made it to the Unites States, he showed his gratitude in the best manner possible: by becoming a member of America’s most elite team of military special forces — the U.S. Navy SEALs. And he remained a SEAL for 20 years until his retirement. “Everything I have, I owe to America — the greatest country in the world,” he says. “When I became a United States citizen, I felt it was my moral obligation to give back to this country and the people who had given me freedom. I wanted to serve my new country in the best capacity I could, so when the first Persian Gulf War broke out, I decided to join the military.” (Nonfiction)

The Puppeteers: The People Who Control the People Who Control America,” by Jason Chaffetz (Broadside Books)

If “Pledge to America” describes America’s founding ideals, and “March to the Majority” describes how we can get back to those ideals, “The Puppeteers” is an insider’s description of how far we have fallen. Jason Chaffetz, a former Utah Republican congressman, explains that merely winning future elections isn’t enough to restore America to her former greatness. Much of the country’s work is being performed by people and entities who are unelected and unaccountable to the American people. Said reviewer Leslie Jones, “I have read many books on the deep state, but none have been as eye-opening as Jason Chaffetz’s ‘The Puppeteers.’ I knew it was important to win the presidency, but I never realized just how much of the government has been put on autopilot.” She added, “Chaffetz provides plenty of evidence to support his claims, and his arguments are compelling.” (Nonfiction)
