Police arrested the gunman who seized a hostage near city hall in the St. Louis suburb of St. Charles, according to news reports.

Dan Borgmeyer, mayor of St. Charles, Missouri, said the ordeal stemmed from a court case at the nearby St. Charles Courthouse, according to KMOX.

Authorities haven’t identified the suspect or the hostage.

But, Borgmeyer said the gunman grabbed the hostage after she walked from the courthouse to a nearby parking garage, which is right across the street from St. Charles City Hall.

There was screaming and shouting — just before the gunfire broke out, the station said.

A courthouse bailiff and the city police responded, and the mayor said hostage negotiators and a mental health expert had been called to start talking with the suspect, according to First Alert 4.

Meanwhile, cops surrounded the parking garage’s first floor.

No one was hit by the earlier gunfire, a government source told First Alert.

Borgmeyer said the hostage situation is now under control, and that there’s no threat to the public.

The St. Charles City police didn’t respond to a request for comment from the network, First Alert said.
