NASCAR driver rips bumper off wrecked car, throws it at rival driver

The NASCAR Xfinity Series’ ToyotaCar 250 at the Richmond Raceway was on Saturday, and driver Joey Gase pulled a move that felt right out of a movie.

Gase’s car was damaged and spun out of the race, and he seemingly assumed rival driver Dawson Cram was responsible for what had happened.

After Gase exited his car, he ripped the bumper off his damaged vehicle and walked over to the cars still racing.

He waited for Cram to come around and threw the bumper at the car, hitting the front and flying over it as the car sped by.

It didn’t damage Cram’s car and he was able to continue racing.

Ironically, the bumper had a McGruff the Crime Dog “Race Against Crime” advertisement on it.

After the incident, the Fox Sports broadcast asked Gase why he threw the bumper at Cram and he said there was some history between the two that he thinks played a part in his exit from the race.

“I think him just not having his head screwed on right,” Gase said. “You know, I gave the kid his first opportunity ever in Xfinity, and I know Johnny Davis is in the business of wrecking race cars, and we’re definitely not. We’re a small team and racing hard for the lucky dog, and apparently, he just didn’t know how to lift. Maybe his throttle’s stuck, I don’t know.”

As for the race itself, Chandler Smith won for the second year in a row, getting his second win of the season.

With those two wins, three top-five finishes, and a top-ten finish in six races, Smith could claim the title of best driver of the season, at least so far.

In the Xfinity Series standings, Smith is in first place, ten points ahead of Austin Hill.

Hill also has two wins and five top-five finishes on the season, but failed to finish in the top five in the race Saturday.

The battle for the championship this season is shaping up to be an intense one.
